Application

A port of Signal Desktop for UT

About Sigul UT

[IMPORTANT: Please Read "tips and tricks" section. Application intended to run on UT 24.04 stable. ]

Sigul UT ( pronounced as "Seagull" ) aims at providing a click package of Signal-Desktop tailored for Ubuntu Touch, with an Interface adapted to the phone screen. This is achieved by applying a minimal set of patches to the Signal-Desktop code itself, and by executing Signal-Desktop in an environment that allows the best integration possible into the Ubuntu Touch system.

This is not an official build provided by Signal Technology Foundation, but it is a build made by the author of the app from the official Signal-Destkop code customized with a very small set of patches written by the author. (Note: the application was formerly know as "Signal UT", but was rebranded to avoid any confusion.)

This is in beta state with some Tips and Tricks might help you to use it!

------------------------------
-> Tips and tricks:
------------------------------

| - Signal-Destkop can only be used as a secondary client, but you can have your primary client inside Waydroid including on the same device (with official Signal app or Molly Foss ). Then to link the account do the following with the help of another camera-enabled device ( computer, other smartphone, reflex camera,...) : Open at the same time Sigul UT and Signal/Molly on Waydroid on the main device, then take a picture of the Qr-Code of Sigul UT with the other device, then switch immediately to Signal or Molly on Waydroid where you have your main account, and scan the picture of the Qr-code on the screen of the other device. Try to do it quite fast as the Qr-Code validity expires after a time that can be quite short. You only need to do this once.

| - During the initial configuration phase the app may not be as stable as it will in day-to-day usage. If something does not work while allowing the microphone or during the following restart of the app (crash, freeze, unable to allow mic), please restart the app and/or reboot the phone and try again. When doing the first account association by scanning the Qr-Code, if you decide to transfer all the messages, the safest is to give it some time ( 10 minutes for example) to sync messages, then to restart the app. The interface may not react properly while the app is syncing messages. After this initial phase the app should be stable and reliable.

| - You can hide the top menus in the app settings -> general -> hide menu bar, to get a more integrated design as in the screenshot.

| - In order to get notifications, disable suspension for Sigul UT from UT Tweak tools ( https://open-store.io/app/ut-tweak-tool.sverzegnassi ). Then keep the application open in background, note that this may use a little more the battery than usual.

| - It is only possible to copy and paste text natively from other XWayland apps, like Whatsnew or Min browser. To exchange clipboard with other apps, please use: https://open-store.io/app/xclip-swap.pparent

| - You can adjust the scaling of the app by clicking on the gear that briefly appears at startup on the top right-hand corner, click on it to access the panel that will allow you to adjust scaling of the app.
---------------------------------
-> Known Limitations:
----------------------------------

| - The camera is not accessible for video calls
| - Some settings are inaccessible, because the select/combobox does not work in the setting page
| - The application might not be as fluid and reactive as it could be, until we can switch to Wayland.
